About Janine Gwaltney Watercolors
For me, to paint is to be happy and I believe that I can communicate that joy to others through my work. I am inspired by nature and also by the underlying abstraction of painting.
Improvisational in style, I begin with a abstract plan and an inspiration, but follow the magic of the water, jamming with the beautiful effects of the medium.
I have been painting in transparent watercolor since 1984. I do not use white paint, allowing the light of the paper to shine through. This technique allows me to see in a new way...not painting the waterfall, only what it isn't.
I love to be outside and usually paint out of doors. I live on the Pedernales and belong to a plein air group, The Secret Society. We paint outside in different parks in Central Texas.
